The Kenton Girls Tennis team lost their home opener to Bluffton 4-1 on Thursday night.

At first singles Mykaela Schriber was beaten by Erin Hotmire 6-2, 6-2.

Lily Osborn played second singles for Kenton and lost a close match to Bluffton’s Olivia Barnes 6-3, 7-5.

Kenton’s Grace Collins at third singles was bested by Julia Smallcomb of Bluffton 6-2, 6-3.

In doubles play, Kenton’s first doubles Kayce Sherman and Samantha Lowe won a three set thriller against Bluffton’s Pearl Lewandowski and Ellison Puglsey 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (9-7).

Kenton’s second doubles of Aaliyah Rogers and Lainey Cole fell 6-4, 6-0 to Ellie Nickel and Libby Frazier of Bluffton.

“I saw a lot of improvement tonight mostly across the board and we were able to win more games tonight. I was very impressed with our first doubles team. Kayce was able to step up at the net and have many put away and Sam was doing a great job getting to every ball that was back. We switched which side they were playing on and it helped immensely and I think some of the confidence came from that. They worked well as a team and I look forward to seeing them improve this season. Overall, we played much better tonight but need to learn to stay calm and close out matches when we are ahead,” said Coach Katie Isenbarger.

Kenton travels to Marion Harding on Friday.
