An update on the new building project for the Kenton City Schools was given at the December meeting of the Board of Education.

Superintendent Chad Thrush said the design development will be done in February, “Once that developmental design is done in February, we’ll get estimates in March and will have to go back through and make cuts again, which is never fun, but we’ll get that done and then June is when the actual bids go out, so that’s when we’re really talking ‘what is the true cost, what can we really afford,’ and that’s when all those decisions of what can stay and what has to go will have to be made. June is really that time period.”

The goal is to have the new building for middle and high school students open in time to start the 2025-26 school year.

Also at the meeting:

.the Board approved a resolution allowing a release time for students to receive religious instruction.

Lifewise Academy allows students to travel by foot or shuttle to a nearby Lifewise Facility.

The students are released from school during school hours and then returned to the school for their regular classes.

.The Board also approved Indoor Track and Field as a Club Sport for the 2022-2023 season.

Board President Doug Carmean was then appointed President Pro-Tem, and he will preside over the re-organizational and regular meeting set for January 9, 2023.
