A man charged with a brutal murder in Upper Sandusky on New Year’s Day is facing a five count indictment.

Bethel M.Bekele was indicted by a Wyandot County Grand Jury earlier this month on one count of aggravated murder, one count of murder, two counts of aggravated burglary and one count of felonious assault.

Bekele allegedly entered the Dollar Tree in Upper Sandusky and struck store employee Keris Riebel multiple times with a machete.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bekele was located and arrested a short time later.

Investigators with the Upper Sandusky Police Department and Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday stated that there has been no evidence uncovered to indicate Bekele was acting in cooperation with any other person or organization.

They also stated that they have not uncovered any evidence that demonstrates any connection, relationship or previous ties between the victim and defendant.

The investigation is ongoing, and the public is encouraged to continue to report and provide any information to law enforcement.
