COLUMBUS— Speaker Larry Householder (R-Glenford) today announced the Ohio House passage of House Bill 2, the Tech Cred job training grant program. This legislation, sponsored by State Representatives Jon Cross (R-Kenton) and Michele Lepore-Hagan (D-Youngstown) creates a grant program to support training for in-demand jobs.
“The Tech Cred program will make Ohio more attractive to businesses looking to invest here and stay in Ohio,” said Speaker Householder. “It will also help Ohioans stay up to date and attractive to employers looking for workers to fill high-demand jobs. I’m pleased that Representatives Cross and Lepore-Hagan were able to carry and work on this important bill.”
This program is geared toward the incumbent workforce and individuals looking to enter an in-demand field. Businesses and individuals would be eligible to apply. House Bill 2 is one of the bipartisan priority bills for the 133rd General Assembly, legislation that builds pillars for a stronger Ohio.
Rep. Cross is happy to champion this bill for the people and businesses of Ohio.
“I am happy to collaborate with educators, employers, and Ohio’s workforce to train for in-demand jobs that make Ohio a great place to live, learn, and work,” said Rep. Cross. “This is an investment in the people of this state and Ohioans should be priority number one.”
“TechCred represents a critically important investment in our state’s businesses and workers,” said Rep. Lepore-Hagan. “We firmly believe that this exciting and innovative new program will generate higher profits for participating firms and increased earnings for the men and women who devote their time, talent, and energy to enhancing their knowledge and skills.”
HB 2 passed the Ohio House with 92 affirmative votes and 3 negative votes and now heads to the Ohio Senate for further consideration.
