Riverdale Student Diagnosed with Pertussis

A Riverdale kindergarten student was diagnosed with Pertussis or whooping cough by the Hancock Health Department. 

 

The information was posted on the Riverdale Facebook page.

 

This is highly communicable early on with the runny nose, sore throat stage followed by a harsh cough. 

 

A fever may be minimal or absent. 

 

Method of transmission is close contact with respiratory secretions of a person infected. 

 

The incubation time can be up to 21 days. 

 

You should contact your medical provider if needed. 

 

As always, you should wash your hands.
