PUCO & OSP Work to Ensure Trucks on Ohio Roads are Safe
Written by WKTN Staff on July 22, 2019
The PUCO and the Ohio State Highway Patrol work together to ensure that commercial motor vehicles (CMV) are traveling safely throughout Ohio.
PUCO inspectors regularly conduct safety inspections on CMVs; last year, inspectors conducted more than 86,000 safety checks. Each safety inspection follows a thorough process to make sure that the driver and CMV meet necessary state and federal regulations.
Vehicles and drivers that fail to meet these regulations may be placed out-of-service and cannot continue operating until they comply with the regulations.
Although inspections can keep unsafe drivers off the road, there are a few things you can do to help yourself and others stay protected.
.Large vehicles have wider turns and longer stopping distances. Give them space and pass carefully only when it’s safe.
.Stay alert and avoid aggressive driving. Resist the temptation of driving too fast, changing lanes improperly or tailgating.
.Stay visible – trucks have large blind spots. If you cannot see the truck driver or their mirrors; chances are the driver cannot see you.
.If you see an unsafe truck on the road, contact Ohio State Highway Patrol.
