January Board Meeting
January 4, 2023

The Hardin County Agricultural Society met Wednesday, January 4, 2023, for their January monthly board meeting. Sixteen directors and eight guests were present.

Brad Murphy, Board President, called the meeting to order.

Correspondence was read from Kirk Cameron, an interested person in being appointed to be a director for a year. Brad stated he will follow up with Kirk.

Judi Cronley, Treasurer, discussed different options for passing out Open Class and JR Fair Premium money. There are several Open Class Exhibitors who always want to donate their premium back to the fair. Directors decided to have a box for exhibitors to check on the entry blank if they would like to do that.

Corey Ledley and Rob Wilson nominated Don Spar as the Fair’s 2023 Fair Honoree. Motion passed unanimously. Directors accepted the 2022 Annual Report. The annual report will be posted on the fair’s website.

Rob Wilson, representing the Ground’s committee, stated the water leak has been found and a new water line will need to be bored underground to fix the leak. This will be done in the Spring. A water line broke in the Beef Restroom when electricity was lost during the last winter storm. This is currently being fixed. Directors agreed to purchase a bucket from Specialty Steel Solutions for the Bob Cat at a cost of $900. Randy Clark has made racks for storing the new chairs and tables for the community building. The board agreed to request a grant from the Hardin County Community Foundation to paint the interior of the Arts/Crafts Building, including the Flower Dept. side.

Judi Cronley, stated 2023 Fair Camping letters have been sent by email and a few were sent by mail. Payment for camping this year is due by Friday, February 17th.

Rob Wilson, representing the entertainment committee, stated the Rodeo contract has been signed and free family entertainment will be booked at the Fair Convention next week.

Jack McBride, Jr Fair Livestock Sale Chairman, stated 3 businesses still need to pay their 2022 Livestock Sale Bills. The new scale was utilized during the steer weigh in.

Everyone was reminded that all fair book changes are needed by January 18th, 2023. Advertising in the Fair Book was discussed. It was noted Sponsorship Packets will be sent by email soon. None will be mailed but follow ups will be made in person.

Discussion was held about closing the Main Fair Gate for admittance to the fair. It was noted there was only a 6.8% usage this past fair. Directors agreed to close the Main Fair Gate.

Directors agreed to have a Hardin County Ag. Society Reverse Raffle Fundraiser for Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024.

Under old business:
Judi noted the credit card limit has been increased. There are 28 directors and spouses attending the Fair convention this year. Eleven of those directors are staying in a hotel for 1 or more nights.

Under new Business:
It was noted that the Annual Consignment Sale will be Saturday, March 11th, 2023 at 9am. Directors approved an advertising budget for the Consignment Sale. A new tag system will be used for this year’s consignment sale. The next Fair Board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 1st at 7pm in the Community Building.
