The month of April is Distracted Driver Awareness Month.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that over 400,000 people are injured per year.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that over 3,100 people were killed in distracted driving related crashes for 2019.
Those numbers were reduced for 2020 and 2021 due to the Pandemic, but the numbers are back on the rise.
The most obvious form of distracted driving is cell phone use, which Ohio law prohibits.
However, any activity that diverts one’s attention from the full time task of driving is considered a distraction.
This could include things such as eating, watching videos, applying make-up and even reading a book.
Law enforcement agencies are reminding motorists to do their part to keep area roads safe and put the phone down until you reach your destination.
