Bankruptcy Filing will Not Affect Local Scouting Organizations

The recent announcement by the Boys Scouts of America that they have filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy has many wondering what that means for local programs.
In a release, it was announced that local councils, such as the Black Swamp Area Council, are not included in the bankruptcy filing.
The Council is legally separate and is financially independent from the national organization.
The national organization of Boy Scouts of America stated the decision to file bankruptcy was made so they could be able to compensate victims who were harmed during their time in Scouting and to continue to carry out Scouting’s mission for years to come.
Both the national and local organizations are stressing that Scouting is safer now than before as they have developed some of the strongest expert-informed youth protection policies found in any organization serving youth.
In short, no changes are expected to the local Scouting experience in the northwest and west central Ohio area.
