Art Dedication Scheduled at University of Findlay

Three paintings created by a local patient with Alzheimer’s Disease, her family, and Awakening Minds Art staff, will be given to the University of Findlay Occupational Therapy Program to display in its adaptive living house.
A dedication ceremony will be held at the Mazza Museum on Monday, April 15 at 10 a.m.
The ceremony is open to the public and free to attend, but registration is requested by contacting Occupational Therapy Program Administrative Assistant Cathy Hocanson at 419-434-6558 or at hocanson@findlay.edu.
Titled “The Journey Through,” the collection was painted by Findlay resident Sandy Errett, with help from husband John, other family members, and AMA Program Director Megan Hall. The project reflects the impact that occupational therapy has had on the Errett’s lives. It was conceived when UF Occupational Therapy Assistant Professor Lindsey Buddelmeyer, OTD, MOT, OTR/L, began working with the couple at Bridge Palliative Care as part of a grant-funded initiative.
Buddelmeyer, in collaboration with Bridge Palliative Care, began offering the Skills2Care® program in 2015. Funded with a two-year Findlay-Hancock Community Foundation grant, the Errett family was one of many that were selected for the specialized intervention program that incorporated caregivers into an overall palliative team to help them keep their loved ones at home as long as possible.
The initial idea “turned into three beautiful canvas pieces” Buddelmeyer said.
Following the dedication ceremony, the artwork will be displayed in the Virginia B. Gardner Fine Arts Pavilion’s Lape Hall, located just outside of the Mazza Museum, for one month, and will then be moved to the adaptive living house at 405 College St.
