of Dunkirk

A funeral service for Robert Wayne James will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at The Price-McElroy Funeral Home in Kenton with Pastor Gregg King officiating. Burial will follow at Dunkirk Cemetery. Friends and family may visit 2 hours prior to services at the funeral home.

Robert passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at his home in Dunkirk. He was born on March 9, 1938 in Rawson, Ohio to the late Goble Elwood and Irene (Haugh) James. On August 11, 1961 he married his wife of 62 years; Dorthy Frederick and she survives in Dunkirk.

Also surviving are 2 daughters; Deborah (Barton) Mills of Dunkirk, Cheryl (Tim) Jackson of San Diego, CA, a sister; Joanne Hauk of Findlay, 2 grandchildren; William (Becky) Mills, Virginia Mills,a sister-in-law; Mildred James and several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by 2 brothers; Elwood James, Earl James, a sister; Jeanette Warren, and 2 brothers-in-law; Jim Hauk and Jim Warren.

Robert graduated from Cory Rawson High School in 1956. He went on to receive his bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University. Robert taught Vocational Agriculture at Vanlue, then became the Industrial Arts Teacher at Hardin Northern High School from which he retired. Robert also farmed his whole life and was extremely passionate about his work. In his younger years, he was a member of the Kiwanis Club and was head of the Key Club which connected students to Kiwanis.

In his free time, Robert enjoyed playing cards, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. Robert also had a passion for working outside, whether it was farming, working in his vegetable garden or playing with his dogs. He was always known to be a jokester, always having a joke to tell or laugh to share.

Memorial donations in Robert’s honor may be made to the Hardin County Humane Society.
