Obituary for Kay A.  Rex

            Kay A.  Rex, age 87, of Ada, passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at 4:35 AM at her residence surrounded by her family.       

            She was born in Queens, New York on June 17, 1935, to the late Forrest and Catherine (Alsop) Maxson.  She and her sisters were raised by her aunt and uncle, Doris and Johnny Fisher and her paternal grandparents.  On October 7, 1956, Kay married Norman J. Rex, they were married for almost 65 years.  He preceded her in death on April 16, 2021.

            Kay is survived by her four children: Sylvia (Ron) Jurcak of Burton, Valerie (Jamie) Hall of Ada, Clinton (Tracy) Rex of Marietta, GA, and Kevin Rex of Ottawa; seven grandchildren: Jessica Jurcak, Andrew Jurcak, Noelle (Mike) Thielman, Ethan Hall, Kyle Rex, Nate Hall, and Colin Rex. 

            She was preceded in death by her two sisters: Pearl Long and Joan Crow.

            Kay had a long career as a caring and loving nurse, ultimately retiring as a geriatric nurse from the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.  She mostly worked part time in order to be an at home mom who was able to help with Brownies, Cub Scouts, and MYF.   She was a 1956 graduate of the Lima Memorial School of Nursing.  She served on the local ADAMH Board for mental health.  Kay and her husband Norm taught Family to Family classes through their involvement with the National Alliance for Mental Illiness.  Kay was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Ada, where she enjoyed singing in the choir.  Kay loved to be with family on as many special occasions as possible; but she especially loved the many family vacations to the beach and Michigan.

            Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at the First United Methodist Church of Ada, 301 North Main Street, Ada, Ohio 45810 with Rev. Brandi Rigsby officiating.  Burial will be in Auglaize Cemetery, Harrod.

            Friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at Hanson-Neely-Allison Funeral & Cremation Services, Ada and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.  

            Memorial contributions may be made to the Ada Food Pantry and/or Beatitudes and/or the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
