of Kenton


A funeral service for Daniel Lee Hughes will be held at 12:00 P.M. noon on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at the First Baptist Church of Kenton with Pastor Craig Mansfield officiating. Cremation will follow. Burial in Grove Cemetery will take place at a later date. Friends and family may visit 1 hour prior to services at the church. The Price-McElroy Funeral Home in Kenton is assisting the family with arrangements. 
Daniel died on Friday, January 6, 2023 at the Marion General Hospital. He was born on May 4,1941 in Bellefontaine to the late Lloyd and Vera (Franks) Hughes. He married Phyllis (Pope) Smith and she survives in Kenton.
Also surviving are his children; Christy (Tim) Ott of Ottawa Lake, Michigan, Laurie Harris of Vieques, Puerto Rico, Dan (Stacy) Hughes of Massachusetts, step-children; Christine Anderson of Dublin, Ohio, Cynthia (Daniel) Peterscheim of McComb, Laurie Smith of Kenton, 12 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by 2 son-in-laws; Kevis Harris, Mark Anderson, and 3 brothers; Dick, Rodney, and Ralph Hughes.
Daniel was a Huntsville High School graduate, and went on to receive his bachelor’s degree in education from the Ohio Northern University.
Daniel was a jack of all trades that worked in many different fields throughout his life. He was a farmer, teacher, principal and at one point owned an insurance office. In his free time, Daniel loved to be outside. He enjoyed working in his garden, growing vegetables and flowers. His favorite flower to grow was the gladiolus and he even joined the Northwest Ohio Gladiolus Society. He loved to fish, shoot trap and train bird dogs. He also enjoyed snowmobiling and had part ownership interest in several harness racing horses.
Memronal donations in Daniel’s honor may be made to the First Baptist Church of Kenton.
