Livestock Lost in Barn Fire this Morning

A barn fire occurred this morning in the 16,000 block of State Route 292.
According to information from the Kenton Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched at around 6:40 to the property owned by Rickie Stephens.
The homeowner stated that he looked out and saw smoke coming from the livestock barn that housed multiple goats.
He said he tried to open a side door to free the animals, but he was unsuccessful and they perished in the blaze.
Firefighters were able to get the fire under control around a half hour after they arrived on scene.
An electric cord ran from a larger barn to the livestock barn that was used to power a heat lamp for the goats, but it is not known for sure if that was the cause of the fire, and it remains under investigation.
