Kenton High School Coed Varsity Wrestling falls to Wapakoneta High School 66-3

The Kenton Wrestling Team travelled to Wapakoneta in a WBL dual matchup Thursady night. Unfortunately, not much went the Wildcats way in the dual and lost handily to the Redskins 66-3.

Aaron Modd prevented the Wapak shutout with a very tight match versus Jarret Mullen at the 144 lb weight class winning by a close 2-1 decision.  Both wrestlers were able to score an escape point during the match, but Mullen was also charged with a locking hands violation as Modd was getting up from the bottom position.  That ended up being the decisive point in the match.

Junior, Anthony Hunt, suffered a tough loss at 150 lbs against Wyatt Buell losing in overtime after what appeared to be takedown by Hunt at the end of the third period. The takedown was not awarded and the two went into overtime with a 1-1 score. Buell got off a shot as time ended in overtime and was awarded a takedown victory to win 3-1.

At 126 lbs, Karson Davis also lost a heartbreaker to Wapak wrestler Kagan Zink.  Davis scored an initial takedown in the first period with a cement mixer taking Zink straight to his back. It looked like Davis had the pin, but instead, was only awarded three nearfall points before resetting and getting another two nearfall points to end the period up 7-0.  Davis chose to start the second period in the top position. After several standup attempts, a stall call on Davis, Zink was able to eventually score on a reversal making the score 7-2 to begin the third period.  Zink then chose bottom, and after three more questionable stall calls charged to Davis, Zink was able to pull off another reversal at the end of the match to win 8-7.

The Wildcats travel to Van Buren for a two day tournament this weekend and then head down to St. Marys next Thursday night for another WBL dual.
