Four pins and two forfeits give the Kenton High School wrestling team their first victory of the season over Lima Bath in WBL action Thursday night.

Senior, Gavin Manns, remains undefeated for the season and started the dual match up with a pin over Kahne Sullivan at the 175 lb weight class (2:37). Sullivan scored the first takedown in the match, but Manns was able to recover and gain a reversal before losing control at the edge of the mat.  Manns then scored his own takedown just at the end of the first period to lead 4-3.  Sullivan then chose the down position to start the 2nd; reached back to grab Manns head and quickly found himself on his back and pinned by Manns with a half-nelson.

Matthew Handell, 6-2 on the season at 215 lbs, also gave up an initial takedown by his opponent, Zoran Cannode; but recovered with a quick escape, takedown and a power-half for the pin at :35 seconds left in the first period. That pin put Kenton in the lead over Bath 12-6 in team points.

After Kenton giving up two forfeits at 285 and 113; Harrison Brien, fell to Carter Deppe at 120 lbs. Kenton found itself behind Bath 12-24 at the halfway point in the dual meet.

Karson Davis then accepted a forfeit 126 lbs which was followed by a double void at 132 lbs. Senior, Antonio Petitt, was then bumped up a weight class to face Jayden Shaw at 138.

Petitt got in a shot early in the match, but was penalized for an illegal slam.  After some recovery time, Shaw decided to continue.  Petitt, however, was able to maintain control and take Shaw down twice before pinning him in second period at 2:21.  Kenton’s Aaron Modd then accepted another forfeit at 144 pounds that put Kenton ahead 30-24 with only two matches to go in the meet.

Junior, Anthony Hunt, sealed the dual meet victory with a quick pin over Carson Myers at 150 pounds (1:15).  JJ Manns fell to Senior, Ricky Deppe at 157 lbs; but it wasn’t enough as Kenton defeated Bath with a final score of 36-30.

Kenton will send some wrestlers to Liberty Benton this weekend for a JV Invitational and then the team travels to Bellefontaine next Wednesday to face the Chieftains in the non-league dual matchup.
