Cross Continues His Support of Indian Lake, Additional Funding Secured

COLUMBUS –State Representative Jon Cross (R-Kenton) has secured another win for the people of Indian Lake. During the final days of the 134th General Assembly, Cross secured an additional $2.75 million to support the rehabilitation and vegetation removal of Indian Lake.

“Finding a solution for Indian Lake has been a priority for me over this general assembly,” said Cross. “This funding is the largest that I have been able to secure through the legislature yet, but I am not done. I will continue to try and find ways to help the people of Indian Lake until this problem is solved.”

The lake has been experiencing significant vegetation growth over the past several seasons causing the lake to become difficult for boaters to navigate. To help with the excess vegetation, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources has purchased a pair of weed harvesting boats and has contracted with other weed harvesting operations to help with the removal.

Cross originally provided $500,000 to help with the invasive vegetation problem through House Bill 175 and funding through the Capital Budget last year totaling more than $ 4 million in support for Indian Lake.

“Indian Lake is a tourist destination in the state and these businesses have been experiencing a downturn in customers due to these problems at the lake,” Cross added. “With the help of this funding to the ODNR, they can focus on tackling this problem and bring tourism back.”

Indian Lake State Park covers nearly 5,800 acres with 5,100 acres of water. The state park host more than two million visitors annually offering a variety of on-the-water recreational options including boating, fishing, jet skiing and swimming.
