Van Wert Knocked Off Kenton in Girls Tennis Match

Written by on September 6, 2019

The Kenton girls tennis team lost to Van Wert  4-1 Thursday night in Western Buckeye League action.

The lone win for the team was first singles Mykaela Schriber who topped Van Wert’s Grace Lott 6-1 6-2.

“Mykaela played very well tonight. She was hitting with great depth which we talked about before the match. She held composure against a very good opponent, and stayed in the points long enough to force her opponent to make the mistakes. I was very proud of all of our singles for hitting with more depth tonight. Their scores don’t always show how close the games were, but many were going to deuce each time. As a whole team we have to learn to stay calm in those crucial moments and play one point at a time. When we tense up, we end up losing the point, and the games,” said coach Katie Isenbarger.

Kenton’s second singles Lily Osborn was topped by Van Wert’s Alli Morrow 6-1, 6-1.

Third singles Grace Collins of Kenton fell to Lizzie Rutkowski of Van Wert 6-1, 6-1.

“Our doubles played fairly well tonight, but again struggled to close out games when up 40-30. Mentally we need to continue to improve, though I was very proud of our doubles games and shots tonight.”

Kenton’s first doubles Kayce Sherman and Aaliyah Rogers lost to Paige Moonshower and Allie Etter of Van Wert 6-0, 6-1.

Second doubles of Samantha Lowe and Lainey Cole from Kenton were topped 6-0, 6-0 by Van Wert’s Kaylee Jennings and Jada Buckner.

Kenton travels to Defiance on Monday.
