Two Holiday Events Taking Place at the Marion Palace this Weekend

Marion, Ohio – The historic Marion Palace Theatre, located at 276 W Center Street in downtown Marion will show the classic holiday film, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” Friday and Saturday. On Sunday afternoon theatre-goers will enjoy a joyous music concert featuring vocalist Lisa Rock in A Carpenters Christmas.

Starring Jim Carrey, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” is a 2000 live-action adaptation of the beloved children’s tale by Dr. Seuss. The reclusive green Grinch (Carrey) decides to ruin Christmas for the cheery citizens of Whoville. The film will be shown on Friday, December 13 at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, December 14 at 10:30 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. A sensory friendly viewing with open captions will take place on Saturday morning. This family-friendly film is rated PG for some crude humor and runs 1 hour, 44 minutes. Admission is $4 for all ages and $2 for current 2019-2020 PCAA members presenting a valid membership card

On Sunday, December 15, the Palace Cultural Arts Association, along with sponsor Mid-Ohio Energy Cooperative, Inc., welcomes to the Palace stage, Lisa Rock in “A Carpenters Christmas.” This holiday concert comes from the creative team behind “Close to You: The Music of the Carpenters,” who performed for a full house at the Marion Palace Theatre in 2014. The festive show is based on music from The Carpenters’ two holiday albums and Christmas variety shows. Theatre-goers will enjoy hearing Lisa and her 6-piece band complete with back-up singers perform holiday classics such as “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” “The Christmas Song,” “Jingle Bells,” “Silent Night,” and of course, “Merry Christmas, Darling” among others. Joining the band on stage for select numbers will be Dayspring Wesleyan Church Choirs (ages 11 to 75 years). A Carpenters Christmas takes place on Sunday, December 15 at 4 p.m. Doors open at 3:15pm. Tickets are $28, $24, $20 adult; $12 student.

The Palace will also be showing movies during the winter holiday break. At press time, movie titles have yet to be confirmed for the following dates: December 27, 28, 29 and 30. Titles will be announced on the Palace website marionpalace.org and Facebook page.
