Two Events Scheduled This Weekend at Marion Palace Theatre

Patrons will have the opportunity to attend two separate events this weekend at the historic Marion Palace Theatre located at 276 West Center Street in downtown Marion.
On Friday, February 15 at 7:30 p.m., the final performance for the 2018-2019 Season of “Improv in the May” takes place in the May Pavilion. During this popular comedy show, members of the audience suggest ideas for the games and skits that seasoned stage actors perform. The rotational pool of actors from Shovel City Improv includes Daniel Bradshaw, Kim Bradshaw, Mike Cochran, Bruce Cudd, Diana Dailey, Danielle Knight, Justen LaPlante, Eric Mosely, and Emily Yaksic. This event is recommended for ages 16 and older. Admission is $5 PCAA member, $6 non-PCAA member.
Back for a second weekend, movie-goers will have the opportunity to see the award-winning film “Green Book” February 15, 16, and 17 at the Palace.
Inspired by a true friendship that transcended race, class and the 1962 Mason-Dixon line, the Universal Studio movie “Green Book” has received 3 Golden Globes and is nominated for 5 Academy Awards.
Set in the 1960s, the film follows the story of Tony Lip (Viggo Mortensen), a bouncer from an Italian-American neighborhood in the Bronx, who is hired to drive Dr. Don Shirley (Mahershala Ali), a world-class Black pianist. While on a concert tour from Manhattan to the Deep South, the pair must rely on “The Green Book” to guide them to the few establishments that were then safe for African-Americans. Confronted with racism, danger as well as unexpected humanity and humor—they are forced to set aside differences to survive and thrive on the journey of a lifetime.
“Green Book” is rated PG-13 for thematic content, language including racial epithets, smoking, some violence and suggestive material and runs 2 hours, 10 minutes. Show times are Friday, February 15 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, February 16 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, February 17 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sunday’s afternoon film will show with open captions. Admission prices for the film are $4 for all ages and $2 for current 2018-2019 PCAA members presenting a valid membership card.
In the coming months, the Marion Palace Theatre’s diverse entertainment line-up includes a classic rock concert with the band America on Friday, February 22 at 8:00 p.m.; Golden Dragon Acrobats on Friday, March 8 at 7:00 p.m.; a dinner and stage production of “Twelve Angry Men” on April 4, 5, and 6 at 6:30 p.m.; the comedic antics of The Church Basement Ladies in “Rise Up, O Men” on Saturday, April 13 at 2:00 p.m.; and a tribute to the music of 50s singing, sibling duo, “The Everly Brothers Experience” on Friday, May 3 at 7:30 p.m.
