Written by on September 24, 2019

An Illinois truck driver is facing charges following an accident in Dunkirk this past Friday afternoon where a semi plowed through a house and stopped in the parking lot of South Side Six.

The semi was being operated north on U.S. 68 by Norris Freedman and traveled off the right side of the road where it went completely through a house owned by Jerry Smith.

Hardin County Sheriff Keith Everhart said an unspecified medical condition caused Freedman to lose control of the vehicle.

He was taken to Blanchard Valley Hospital.

Smith was taken by helicopter to St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima where he was treated and released.

Freedman is expected to be charged with failure to control, but the crash remains under investigation.

The house was totally destroyed and was razed Friday night.
