Sorority to Recognize MTC President and 4 Local Students at Convention

Marion, Ohio — Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK) will recognize MTC President Ryan McCall with the Paragon Award for New Presidents during PTK Catalyst 2019, the Society’s annual convention, April 4-6 in Orlando, Florida.
These awards are given to new college presidents who have shown strong support of student success by recognizing academic achievement, leadership, and service among high-achieving students at their college. Recipients were nominated for the award by the students on their campus. McCall is one of just 25 college presidents to be selected nationwide, and the only one in Ohio. More than 500 college presidents were nominated.
“It’s an honor to be selected for this prestigious award,” said Dr. Ryan McCall, president of MTC. “I’m proud to be recognized and even prouder of the work out local chapter members are doing to succeed in college and in life.”
In addition, four local Phi Theta Kappa members will be recognized for their academic excellence by being named to the 2019 All-Ohio Academic Team. On April 25th at a luncheon at the Ohio Statehouse, Sharon Putney, Bethany Gliem, Erica Gushard and Robert Gearhart II will be awarded scholarships and recognized by state legislators. Putney graduated from Marysville and currently lives in Raymond. Gliem lives in Marion. Gushard attended TRECA and lives in Marion. Gearhart graduated from Wynford and lives in Nevada.
“These great students are hard workers and strong leaders. I’m proud of them for their success!” says Andrew Hand, Chapter Advisor and Associate Professor of Psychology.
The Beta Nu Pi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at MTC is a five-star chapter. It has grown from 24 new members in 2017 to 63 new members in 2018. Students must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and a minimum of 12 credit hours completed.
PTK students have a 91 percent student success rate, and research has shown that strong presidential leadership and support of PTK increases member success and the depth of their college experience. In addition to focusing on scholarship, leadership, and fellowship, chapter members also perform many service projects around campus and the local community.
