Serial Killer Sentenced in Marion County Wednesday

A serial killer was sentenced Wednesday in Marion County Common Pleas Court in connection to the murder of what is believed to be his first victim.

 

The Marion Star reported that 43 year old Shawn M. Grate was sentenced to life in prison without the possibilty of parole for the 2006 murder of 23 year old Dana Lowrey.

 

The Louisiana woman was selling magazines door-to-door in May of 2006. 

 

Grate is believed to have first strangled her at his house, and when she came to, she was stabbed to death.

 

A year later, her skull was found at a dump site on Victory Road, which is north of Marion.

 

Grate has already been sentenced to death for the murder of two women in Ashland County.

 

He has confessed to killing five women, including Lowrey.
