School Shooter Appeals Sentence

Written by on February 19, 2019

The West Liberty-Salem School shooter is appealing his sentence.

The Springfield News-Sun reported that lawyers for Eli Serna have appealed the teenagers 23 year sentence saying that the judge erred when he gave the maximum sentence to the then 17 year old.

Serna took a shotgun to the school in 2017 and opened fire in a bathroom.

Logan Cole suffered critical injuries, and another classmate received minor injuries in the shooting.

Attorneys say Serna was depressed at the time, but has shown remorse. They also say the judge failed to take Serna’s age into account at the time of sentencing.

He pleaded guilty to attempted murder, felonious assault and inducing panic.
