Ridgemont School Board Releases Highlights of May Meeting

The 2018-2019 school year is coming to an end and it has been a learning experience for us all. The weather played a major part in the many calendar, lunch menu, sports schedules, and educational changes but everyone stepped up and made it all happen for our students. Thank you to everyone who helped us through 2018-2019! We have grown in so many ways and I am very proud of our students, staff, and community!

Below are the highlights from the Board of Education Meeting.

Graduation will be held Friday, May 31, 2019, at 7:00 pm in the PK-12 Gymnasium in Mt. Victory. I want to personally invite all of you to the graduation ceremony and witness the Class of 2019 accepted their high school diplomas. Our staff is very proud of our graduates and we wish them well as they become alumni and make a difference in the world in which they live. Best of luck to our Graduates!

High School Track has 2 student athletes competing at Regionals, Tyrese Patterson competed in the Long Jump yesterday, Congratulations Tyrese!. Amanda Howland will be competing Friday at Lancaster. Good luck Amanda! We are very proud of our student athletes.

The first motion recognized the Ridgemont FFA Chapter for being selected as one of the Top Ten FFA Chapters in the State of Ohio for the twelfth year in a row. At the state convention, our 117 member chapter competed with 310 other chapters. In addition to Top 10 Overall, they competed in all three divisions of Models of Innovation, divisions were Growing Leaders, Building Communities and Strengthening Agriculture. The Board congratulates the Ridgemont FFA Members and their Advisors, Mrs. Stephanie Jolliff and Ms. Shelby Faulkner for this Exceptional Achievement.

The Ridgemont Board of Education recognizes the following FFA Members for receiving high honors at the State Convention:

Below are state winners, all of their applications now advance to the NATIONAL level:
.Madisen Jolliff was #1 in Ohio in the Ag Communication proficiency
.Alli Underwood and Kamryn Stanfield were #1 in Ohio in the Food Products and Processing Systems science fair division
.Collin Wallace and Kolton Skaggs were #1 in Ohio in the Animal Systems science fair division
.Josiah Strahm and Jaden Hensel were #1 in Ohio in the Environmental and Natural Resource Systems science fair division

Personnel:

Mrs. Connie Reel retired 4 years ago and then came back to fill the position of Transportation Coordinator to help us out. Mrs. Reel is resigning from that position to finally enjoy her retirement. Thank you Mrs. Reel for over 23 years of managing the buses at Ridgemont.

Teacher contracts were approved as listed below, beginning with the 2019-2020 school year:

One Year-Mrs. Jessica Brackman, Mr. Brian Claybaugh, Mr. JD Dawson, Ms. Shelby Faulkner, Mr. Tom Jarvis, Mrs. Katie Lafontaine, Mrs. Megan Looney, Mr. Dan McCulloch, Ms. Katrina Riepenhoff, Ms. Krista Shirk, Mr. Kevin Wingfield

Mrs. Jennifer Elliott was given a Gifted Coordinator contract and Mr. Tom Mustain was give a Technology Coordinator contract for the 2019-2020 contract year.

Non-certified continuing contracts were approved for Mrs. Dee Jordan and Mrs. Christina Payne and two year contracts were approved for Mrs. Shannon Bidwell and Mrs. Jackie McCarthy, all beginning with the 2019-2020 school year.

A resolution was approved to share Food Service Coordinator with North Union School District for the 2019-2020 school year.

The following were employed on a supplemental contract for the 2019-2020 school year:

The motion was approved to non-renew all spring and remaining 2018-2019 supplemental contracts as each is for one year and the spring and school year are complete. Mrs. Tammy Johnson was approved to tutor for summer reading.

Operations:

Changes and updates were needed on the previously approved 2019-2020 school year calendar. The February 25, 2020, 2 Hour Delay was moved to March 3, 2020. The last day of school for the 2019-2020 school year is now May 22, 2020. The link below has the updated calendar. Graduation was approved to be held Friday, May 29, 2020.

Fees were approved for the 2019-2020 school year as follows:

K-6th-$40
7-12-$60
7-12 Technology Device-$50
Upon payment of $50 per year, Senior Students beginning with the class of 2020 will have purchased a device (laptop/chromebook) and will own the device upon graduation.

Membership Fees:

FFA Dues: $25.00
Class Dues for All 7th through 12th Graders: $25.00
(No fundraisers will be approved to raise funds for classes. The $25 fee will support all class projects such as prom and graduation.)

Band Fees: (as needed, payable to the Ridgemont Local Schools.)

4th Grade Recorder Fee-$10.00
5th Grade Band Members-Book Fee-$9.00
7th Grade Band-Book Fee-$9.00 (except percussionists)
7th Grade Band Percussionists-Book Fee-$13.00
9-12 Band Members-Uniform Cleaning-$10.00
5-12 Instrument Repair Fee for all Students Using School Instruments – $10.00
Miscellaneous Charges for Items such as Reeds, etc. – At Cost

Lunch prices will remain the same:

K-8 Student Lunch-$2.80
9-12 Student Lunch-$3.05
Extra Milk-$.50
Adult Lunch-$3.55
K-12 Breakfast-$1.55

The new NWCC League official fees were approved, athletic gate prices, Ridgemont passes, and athletic program prices were also approved.

A Memorandum of Understanding was approved between the Board of Education and the Ridgemont Education Association for the change in health insurance costs. The purchase of Chromebooks for the incoming freshmen were approved, a Special Education agreement, and advertising for a new bus bid were also approved. An agreement with Mt. Victory Elevator was approved for the placement of radio repeater and the field trip for the basketball teams to Indiana in January 2020 was approved.

Resolutions were approved for the final reconciliation of the Ohio School Facilities Commission and Ridgemont Local School District Project Construction Fund. The Certificate of Project Completion was approved and the motion authorizes the President and Treasurer to execute the certificate.
