Ridgemont Board Meeting Highlights July 25th 2019

This is the last Board meeting before the start of the 2019-2020 school year. We ask this every year…where did the summer go? We will be ready for the start of the school year and we are looking forward to making this an amazing year for every student! August 15th is coming fast and we look forward to seeing our students return.

We need all parents who have not enrolled or updated their children’s Final Forms accounts, to go to our website ( www.ridgemont.k12.oh.us/ ) and click on Final Forms and start the process now, please. All students are to be enrolled/updated as soon as possible in Final Forms.

Important dates and events are listed below.

July 31st – Welcome Center is Open 7:00 am-3:00 pm

Enroll new K-12 students, purchase or pick up athletic passes, pay fees, bring proof of residency, update Final Forms, or call for information.

August 12th – BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT

Elementary Supply Drop Off Night – 4: 00 to 5:30pm

Meet your teacher, drop off school supplies

JH & HS Back to School Night – 5:30-7:30pm

5:00-5:30-Schedule Pickup

5:30-5:45-Opening in gym with Mrs Stover

5:50-7:30-Classroom visitation including Chromebook Pickup

Beginning at 5:50pm parents and students will attend brief classroom visitations as they follow the students assigned schedule for the school year. This will give everyone the opportunity to meet with the teachers and learn first-hand expectations and plans for this coming year. Chromebooks will be distributed during the 8th period schedule time. Final Forms must be updated to receive Chromebooks.

Below are the highlights from the Board of Education Meeting. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

The Board approved the motion to proceed with a renewal of the .75 % income tax that will be placed on the November 2019 ballot. The renewal is for no new money and is anticipated to generate approximately $493,626 dollars a year for the operations of the district.

RESOLUTION DETERMINING TO PROCEED WITH THE

PROPOSITION OF A RENEWAL INCOME TAX

(R.C. §§ 5748.02 and 5748.03)

WHEREAS, the Board at its meeting on June 27, 2019, determined that it is necessary to raise annually additional revenues of at least Four hundred ninety-three thousand, six hundred twenty six Dollars ($493,626.00) for the purpose of providing for the current operating expenses of the School District; and

WHEREAS, the Tax Commissioner of the State of Ohio has estimated and certified the property tax rate and the income tax rate required in order to produce such additional revenues; and

WHEREAS, the income tax rate, rounded to the nearest one-fourth of one percent as required by law, is three quarters of one percent (0.75%) per annum;

WHEREAS, such rate is not higher than the income tax approved by the voters of the School District on May 5, 2015 for five years (the “Existing Income Tax”);

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Education of the Ridgemont Local School District, Hardin County, Ohio, a majority of the members thereof concurring, that:

Section 1. It is hereby determined to be necessary to proceed with the proposition of levying a renewal of the Existing Income Tax on the school district income of individuals and estates in the School District (the “Income Tax”). Such renewal income tax shall be at the rate of three quarters of one percent (0.75%) per annum, shall be for the purpose of providing for current operating expenses of the School District, shall take effect on January 1, 2021, and shall be levied for five (5) years (the “Income Tax”).

Section 2. The income that shall be subject to the Income Tax is the taxable income of individuals and estates as defined in Ohio Revised Code Sections 5748.01(E)(1)(a) and 5748.01(E)(2).

Section 3. The question of levying the Income Tax shall be submitted to the electors of the School District at the election to be held at the usual voting places within the School District on November 5, 2019.

The form of the ballot to be used at said election shall be as follows:

Section 4. The Treasurer of the School District is hereby directed to certify a copy of this Resolution to the Board of Elections of Hardin County, Ohio not later than August 7, 2019.

Section 5. It is hereby found and determined that all formal actions of this Board concerning and relating to the passage of this Resolution were adopted in an open meeting of this Board, and that all deliberations of this Board and of any of its committees that resulted in such formal action were in meetings open to the public in compliance with all legal requirements, including Section 121.22 of the Ohio Revised Code.

Personnel

Shawn Smith was hired for the ½ Teacher and ½ Athletic Director position for the 2019-2020 school year. Shawn is a graduate of the Ridgemont School District and will be a great addition to the staff.

Operations

The Board approved for the Treasurer to advertise for bids for the bus maintenance service and the agreement with Kenton City Schools for special education was approved. The Interdistrict Contract with Midwest Regional ESC, for the 2019-2020 school year for Educational Aides, Curriculum, Special Education Officer, Speech Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Preschool Program Services, including Preschool Itinerant Services, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Educational Aide, Psychological Services, Behavior Coach Specialist, and SWD Services was approved. Teacher substitutes were approved for the upcoming school year as well as the Career Advising Policy, and the CCIP Assurances. The board also approved two Exchange Students to attend Ridgemont High School.

Representing the Board at the OSBA Annual Meeting will be Eric Hill as Delegate and Charlie McCullough as Alternate.
