Rhodes State Debuts Three New Programs

LIMA, Ohio, July 16, 2020 –Three new certificate programs will be available entirely online and ready for students to complete this fall at Rhodes State College.

Agricultural Business, Esports Management & Coaching, and Project Management, all 16-week certificate programs and offer industry recognized credentials for immediate career impact.

These certificates are offered in an accelerated online format, and according to Dr. Brendan Greaney, Assistant Vice President for Innovation and Community Engagement, its purpose “is to serve students who want to quickly gain a new skill or credential, then enter the workforce or advance in their career.”

Experts in their fields have designed and will teach the courses. One such expert is the curriculum designer and instructor for the new Esports Management & Coaching certificate, Nick Rider, who is the founder and President of Esports, Ohio.

“Rhodes State College’s innovation and dedication to their student’s needs and wants are evident,” said Rider. “As the founder and president of the largest high school esports organization in Ohio, I will utilize my experience, knowledge, and industry connections to educate students with the most relevant knowledge and practices needed to be successful in a career in esports.”

The Esports program provides entry into a quickly growing, internationally recognized, competitive sport. Many high schools in the area host esports teams including; Allen East, Crestview, Elida, Indian Lake, Shawnee and St. Mary’s. Students could find themselves as coaches or program managers of local or regional teams.

The Agricultural Business certification can prepare individuals for a dynamic career in the agricultural service-industry. Students may already be employed in the Ag industry or exploring a new career path. This curriculum will meet their needs for advancement and includes training in crop and animal care, horticulture, and landscape. This certificate can transfer easily into Food Science industries or an agricultural-related associate’s degree. Rhodes State looks forward to supplying the next wave of technicians in agriculture service, agricultural production, and farm or greenhouse management.

Rhodes State College has added the Project Management certificate program due to the increasing demand from businesses and industries in our region. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that management occupations will grow at the rate of 7% by 2028, which is faster than comparable jobs. The curriculum will prepare students to sit for the Certified Associate in Program Management (CAPM®) exam and credential as well as earn career promotions or new jobs as Assistant Project Managers, Assistant Business Analyst Consultants, PMO Operational Support Analysts and Project Coordinators.
