Pursuit of Stolen Vehicle Ends in Crash in Huntsville

A Bellefontaine man was injured after crashing his vehicle following a high speed pursuit Tuesday afternoon.

 

WPKO Radio reported that the Russells Point Police Chief spotted a vehicle that was reported stolen from Bellefontaine run a stop sign and attempted a traffic stop.

 

The driver of the stolen vehicle, later identified as 33 year old Eric Oberly, fled eastbound on State Route 366.

 

Oberly eventually crossed State Route 117 and traveled onto Township Road 100, where his vehicle struck a mailbox, went into a yard and back onto the road where it struck the Russells Point police cruiser.

 

The pursuit, that lasted ten minutes and reached speeds of up to 100 miles an hour, ended when Oberly crashed into the patio of a business in Huntsville.

 

Oberly was first taken to Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine and later transferred to OSU Medical Center in Columbus for treatment of back injuries.

 

He is facing several felony charges.
