Pedestrian Killed on Train Tracks in Marion

A man was killed in Marion Thursday night after being struck by a train.

On August 15th, at 10:33 pm, the Marion County Combined Dispatch Center received a call of a train/pedestrian crash that occurred on the CSX tracks, approximately 200 feet East of the Leader Street train overpass.

The reporting party indicated that there was an individual lying between the rails prior to impact with the Westbound train.

Upon arrival, officers located a deceased white male, approximately mid-thirties with tattoos along the right arm, right chest and exterior right calf. The subject was wearing a black and gray “Throwdown” MMA style t-shirt and a pair of black Under Armor shoes.

After exhausting numerous attempts to identify this individual, MPD is seeking the assistance of the community. The Marion Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit is conducting this investigation.

MPD was assisted at the scene by the Marion County Coroner’s Office, a Marion County Sheriff’s Office K-9 and an Ohio Highway Patrol Aviation Unit out of Columbus.

There will be no additional details released pending the identity of the victim.
