OOGEEP Offers Free Field Training to Support Ohio Firefighters and First Responders

Granville, OH – As part of the Ohio oil and gas industry’s commitment to safety and firefighters, the Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Education Program (OOGEEP) today announced registration for its nationally recognized “Responding to Oilfield Emergencies” training is now open.
Scheduled for October 5-6 and November 2-3, OOGEEP’s Firefighter workshop provides Ohio first responders with training to address situations that involve natural gas and crude oil. Led by New Concord Fire Chief Brent Gates and a team of 15 state certified trainers with more than 500 years of combined experience, the comprehensive training incorporates these key areas:
.interactive classroom presentations with virtual reality exercises;
.comprehensive education on Ohio’s growing oil and gas industry;
.live burn behavioral lab; and
.opportunity to participate in a unique oilfield tour.
Space is limited for the free training and registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis. All training costs, meals and lodging for attendees from Ohio are paid for by Ohio’s oil and gas producers.
Trainings are held at the Wayne County Fire and Rescue Regional Training Facility in Apple Creek. Almost 1,600 firefighters and first responders from Ohio and seven other states have participated in the program. Upon completion of the training, each participant will receive a certificate of attendance, field guide, Class B Foam and many other materials. Participants will also receive documentation for up to 12 CEU contact credit hours. These CEU credits must be approved by each department’s fire chief in accordance with State Fire Training regulations.
To be eligible for the training, applicants must have completed a minimum 36-hour Ohio Volunteer Firefighter course and are required to bring their own turnout gear and SCBA. Individuals can learn more and register for the training at https://www.oogeep.org/firefighters/.
