OHSAA Suspends School vs School Scrimmages

Written by on July 29, 2020

The Ohio High School Athletic Association has suspended “school vs school” scrimmages for football, soccer and field hockey.

Schools were notified Tuesday night by the OHSAA.

Practice for contact sports of football, soccer, field hockey and cross country are scheduled to start August 1. The OHSAA says everything is on track for low/non contact sports of golf, girls tennis and volleyball to begin practice, with school vs school scrimmages to follow their OHSAA permissible dates and regulations.

The OHSAA is waiting for more guidance from the Governor’s office and Department of Health when school vs school competition can be granted for the contact sports. They do not anticipate the suspension changing soon and the possibility of no scrimmages are likely in football, soccer and field hockey

The organization says safety for all student -athletes is most important and everyone has to be accountable for following all mandates and requirements.
