OhioHealth Hardin Memorial Hospital to Expand Services

Hardin Memorial Hospital has embarked on a new renovation project that will enable them to expand their infusion services to include chemotherapy. The infusions will take place in a brand new state-of-the-art infusion area located in the Outpatient Department on the 2nd floor.
Medical providers order infusion, the administration of medication through a needle or catheter, when a patient’s condition does not allow them to be treated with oral medications. Some examples of conditions that may require infusion include oral antibiotics resistance, cancer, blood transfusions, dehydration, immune deficiencies, multiple sclerosis and more.
“Keeping care local is very important to OhioHealth,” stated Ron Snyder, Chief Operating Officer of Hardin Memorial Hospital. As a part of that goal, Dr. Farrukh Ashraf, an MD Anderson Cancer Network® certified physician, practicing at certified hospital OhioHealth Marion General, started seeing patients in the Specialty Center in August 2017. With all the improvements in cancer care and a continued need in the community, Hardin Memorial Hospital decided to expand their infusion services to support chemotherapy and a variety of infusions.
The new area will have six private infusion bays as well as a designated multidisciplinary conference room for future telemedicine opportunities, navigation support, and chemotherapy education. Upgrades are also taking place in the current pharmacy to provide room for the specialized equipment and space needed to safely mix chemotherapy agents.
To make this project possible, other upgrades had to take place which included the relocation of the administration department to the south end of the second floor as well as renovating current office space to house medical records, the business office and other supportive administrative staff.
Snyder noted “expanding our infusion services and adding this new state-of-the art area will allow our oncology patients to receive the treatment they need without leaving our community. It all shows our commitment to keeping care local.”
