Obituary For Joyce A. Putnam

Joyce A. Putnam, 88, of Carey, died Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at her daughter’s home in Carey, with her family by her side.

Born July 22, 1931 in Vanlue, she was the daughter of the late Merritt and Margaret (Breitigam) Hatch. She married Willis M. Putnam, Jr on March 1, 1952 in Vanlue. Willis preceded her in death on November 7, 2001.

Surviving are five children: Sandy Keegan of Dunkirk, Steve (Vicky) Putnam, Cheryl (Doug) Stombaugh, Becky (Buck) Hawkins all of Carey and Dan (Lisa) Putnam of Sycamore; 17 grandchildren; a sister, Bonnie Nielsen of Bluffton and a daughter in-law, Linda Putnam.

Preceding her in death was a son, John Putnam; two brothers, Ronald and David Hatch; a grandson and 3 great grandchildren.

A 1949 graduate of Vanlue High School, Joyce was a homemaker and assisted her husband on the family farm.

Joyce was a sports enthusiast. She enjoyed following Carey Blue Devil sports from the time her children and grandchildren began participation up to the present.

Friends will be received 11:00am to 1:00pm on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey.

The funeral service will be at 1:00pm on Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. Bill Bentley officiating and her son in-law, Buck Hawkins, will share memories and stories of Joyce’s life. Burial will follow at Lee Cemetery near Vanlue.
