Obituary for David E. Vick

Written by on May 20, 2019

David E. Vick age 71, of Upper Sandusky, died on Thursday May 16, 2019 at Fairhaven Community after a battle with stage 4 prostate cancer.

“Eyes on path,” was the advice David Earl Vick offered to each of his five grandkids, as they learned the fine art of walking, then running, and eventually going off on their adventures. Born 71 years ago to Robert and Nellie Leah Vick, Dave had an older brother, Jerry, all of which he outlived. Married for almost 52 years to his soul mate, Mary Alice Miller, they created a loving home at Upper Sandusky, Ohio. Mary and Dave, were synonymous- to know or see one, the other was always nearby. They had known each other since the first grade, were high school sweethearts, and married before Dave headed off to the Vietnam War. When he returned, he worked at AEP, first as a lineman and then 14 years as a Waldo area service man, and eventually becoming a Distribution Supervisor for Tiffin, Fremont, Willard, Bucyrus, and Upper Sandusky. They raised twin boys, Andrew Mark and Matthew Allen Vick. While growing up, Dave showed both boys that family was one of the most important things to have in life, while also having an incredibly strong work ethic. Andy took this to heart and married his high school sweetheart, Mindy Seaton, and they are raising two incredible kids: Olivia Grace and Owen Reese. Matt took a little longer to find his sweetheart, but thankfully they found each other. He married Myra Miyoshi, and they have three amazing kids: Wyatt Shokan, Malia Tomoko, and Autumn Izumi.

To know Dave was a lucky thing. He was patient, strong, and his love for family was beyond comparison. A steady hand, sound advice, and a listening ear, gave us all a chance to find our path, and his was much too short. He always kept an eye out for us, and we will always keep him in our hearts.
