OSU Vice President Speaks To High School Studnets

Dr. Bruce McPheron, Provost and Executive Vice President of The Ohio State University visited his Alma Mater Monday. He spoke to students of Kenton, Ridgemont and Hardin Northern schools about college and it’s importance in the workforce. He credited his successes to Kenton and Hardin County, citing the Hardin County Fair and Hardin County’s 4-H program. He describes his job as Provost as the metaphorical mayor of the University. He is second in command to OSU’s president, Dr. Michael Drake. He makes sure that everything on campus is running smoothly, from college classes, to the medical center, and everything in between.

Students were reminded that while they are college searching, they should remember to focus on their current classes at the high school level. McPheron said that on average, a person will change jobs 10 times in their lifetime and that Ohio State was there to help them for that. The provost reminded seniors that the application deadline for The Ohio State University is February 1st, 2017.

When asked what he would suggest to a student that is entering college undecided on a major, Dr. McPheron says that those students enrolled at OSU have the option to enroll in the extremely popular exploration program. This program offers advisors trained in programs across the campus. These students take basic courses while they decided on their major.
