Kroger Store Set to End 63 Year Run in Kenton

It’s the end of an era in Kenton as the Kroger store is set to close for good.
The store was originally scheduled to close this Friday, and while that is still officially the plan, unconfirmed sources are saying that it will close tomorrow at 5.
Kroger is set to close for the day this evening at 5.
The grocery store chain has been part of Kenton for 63 years.
A store first opened September 23, 1957 in a 10,508 square foot building at 925 East Columbus Street.
That is the current site for Sherwin Williams Paint.
On February 6, 1977, Kroger opened a 25,168 square foot store at 991 East Columbus.
That building was located where Gordmans, which recently closed, is located.
Kroger vacated that location on December 6, 1996.
The next day, they moved into the 54,971 square foot building just a few doors to the west in the Kenton Shopping Plaza.
The store announced in August that the Kenton Kroger and gas station would close stating that the store has continued to lose revenue and has not been profitable since 2012.
Kroger owns the gas station, and they are attempting to sell that off.
The building for the grocery store chain was rented.
All associates were considered for reassignment to other Kroger locations as outlined in the company’s collective bargaining agreement.
