Kenton City Council Receives Updates on Downtown Project

The Kenton City Council held a meeting Monday night.
In last night’s meeting the ordinance allowing for additional officers for the Kenton Police Department was passed.
Police Chief Dennis Musser addressed the council and clarified that the new hire would be used on the road and a more experienced officer would be placed inside Kenton City Schools.
In new business two ordinances that allow the city of Kenton to begin searching for funding for phase two of the Downtown Revitalization project were brought before the council. The first ordinance allowed funding to be found for downtown waterline replacement phase two and the second allowed funding to be found for downtown sewer system separation and replacement phase two. Both of these ordinances had the three reading rule suspended and were passed.
Safety Service Director Cindy Murray gave an update on the progress of phase one of the Downtown Revitalization project. So far for Water Phase One, water main installation is at 63%, gate valve installation is at 68%, 10 of 16 service connections have been completed and 3 of 7 hydrants have been installed. For Storm and Sanitary Sewer Phase One 12% of the storm pipe has been installed and 7% of manholes and catch basins have been installed.
It is predicted that construction on Detroit street will be done in a month to a month and a half and then the crews will begin on main street.
Mayor Lynn Webb thanked local businesses for being understanding during construction and reminded the public DO NOT move barricades or cross them in construction areas.
A petition was mentioned during the meeting that called for a 4 way stop at the intersection of Levings Street and Smith Avenue. It was mentioned that many children use this street for getting to buses.
Public Information Officer Taylor Klinger announced to the council that the new City of Kenton Website has received 3,501 views in 20 days and 189 file downloads. Kenton Website Link
Klinger also announced that the video submission to HGTV has received 17,967 views and 296 shares in less than three days. . It was noted that the response to the video was higher than expected and that the Mayor has high hopes for the video.
The next meeting of the Kenton City Council will be held on Monday February 24th at 7 P.M.
