Kenton City Council Prepares for Covid-19

Written by on March 23, 2020

In last night’s non traditional meeting an ordinance was added to the agenda that allowed for $23,500 in additional appropriations to the 2020 budget. This was necessary because during the Covid-19 Crisis about $5,000 was spent on protective measures for city workers and more is expected to be spent. This ordinance had the three reading rule suspended and it was passed.

Next, there is a EPA mandated project that involves replacing the main trunk line from the Water treatment plant from a 12 inch line to a 16 inch line that must be completed by early fall. Because of this urgency it had the three reading rule suspended and the ordinance was passed.

There was a public hearing on an ordinance allowing for the next steps to the Natural Gas Aggregation Program. After the public hearing the ordinance was deemed time sensitive and had the three reading rule suspended and it was passed.

Safety Service Director Cindy Murray mentioned that next week crews would begin work on the sewer system.

In place of representatives for the police and fire departments Mayor Webb read that the police department is implementing measures set forth by the state for Covid-19 which include wiping down equipment and wearing masks and gloves in certain situations. The fire department announced that the fire house is closed to the public.

The next meeting of the Kenton City Council will be held on Monday April 13th at 7 P.M.
