Kenton City Council Held a Special Meeting on Tuesday Night

Written by on October 1, 2019

During the meeting the board passed an ordinance that allowed for a transfer of funds to multiple city projects. Including waterworks repairs to plant and a repair to a street light mechanism.

In new business there was one ordinance that allowed the Mayor and/or Safety Service Director to accept bids and enter into contracts with Driven Excavating LLC for construction services. The next ordinance allowed for the Mayor and/or Safety Service Director to enter into agreements with OHM advisors for construction administration/ construction management/ and construction inspection services.

Law Director John Schwemer and President of Council Joel Althauser urged council to suspend the three reading rule for the two ordinances so that phase one of the downtown revitalization could begin. Law Director Schwemer emphasized that he was confident that this is what we needed to move forward.

It was later taken to a vote where both ordinances had the three reading rule suspended and were passed.

During comments OHM advisor Sean Gillian said the estimated start date is November 15th and will last until about June 1st. He also said that currently the plan is to begin with Detroit street then move to Main street and there should only be partial road closures while still allowing traffic to businesses. However, the plan is to work in conjunction with other projects so details of the undertaking may be changed.
