Information Meeting on Trash Collection in Kenton Held

An informational meeting on the future of trash collection in the city of Kenton was held this morning.
Mayor Lynn Webb stated they are attempting to find the best program that works for the city and learn the most they can so they can make a smooth transition.
The city’s contract with the North Central Ohio Solid Waste District expires later this year, and Director Jack DeWitt said he received quotes from Republic that offered a base rate for a 96 gallon cart with unlimited trash bag service that would be collected weekly, and a 65 gallon recycle cart to be collected every other week. That rate would also include a bulk item per week as well.
The quote also included a lower fee for senior citizens.
The amount has not been finalized as negotiations are also underway with Rumpke as well.
The topic of how to collect for the fees was discussed as well. Under consideration is adding the fee onto the water bill, which allows the city to shut water service off if the bill is not paid.
Currently the city has a pay as you throw system with curbside recycling.
All agreed that there are problems with the small, uncovered totes, especially on a windy day.
DeWitt said he would report back to city officials when and if he receives a quote from Rumpke before discussing the matter further.
