HCSO Warns Residents About Social Security Scam

Written by on February 1, 2019

The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office is warning resident to be aware of social security scam.

They have received reports that persons identifying themselves as being from the Social Security Administration are calling area citizens, claiming that their Social Security benefits are somehow in jeopardy, and that they must call the supposed Social Security representative to resolve the problem.

Residents are urged to not return any such calls or provide any personal information to the caller.

Social Security employees do at times contact citizens, who may have ongoing business with Social Security, by telephone for customer-service purposes. However, Social Security employees will never threaten you for information.

If you receive a suspicious call from someone alleging to be from Social Security, you should report that information to the Office of the Inspector General at 1-800-269-0271.
