Hardin County Ag Society Releases Minutes of September Meeting

The Hardin County Agricultural Society met Wednesday, August 28, 2019, for their September board meeting.

All twenty-one directors were present. And eleven guests were also present.

Corey Ledley, Board President, called the meeting to order.

Mark Light, OSU Hardin County Extension Agent, stated there will be educational livestock signs put up in the barns.

A thank you was read from the Kenton Elementary School pre-school classes for receiving fair coloring books, that the fair board gave them.

Brad Murphy gave an update on the strategic plan. The new infrastructure for IT is done and there is a 2018 year end brochure this will be available for those interested to review available during the fair.

Kelly Buchenroth, Ground’s Chairman, stated one tree was cut down due to dying and some have been trimmed. The backflow preventer for the fairground dump station has been certified. Fire extinguishers have been checked for the fair. Winter storage begins Oct. 1st at $25 a month for vehicles and $10 per linear foot for boats, trailers, campers, RV’s, etc.

Craig Stump, Camping Chairman, stated fair camping spots will be marked on Thursday, ready for campers to move in on Friday. Hang tags for current fair campers are ready for pick up in the Fair Office. Campers need to remember to not pull out before 7pm on Sunday night of the fair or you will lose your camping spot for the next year.

Rob Wilson, chairman of the Entertainment Committee, stated ticket sales for Saturday night’s entertainment for the Hardin County Fair with Tyler Rich and Matt Stell continue to be on sale. All ticket sales are done on line at www.hardincountyfair.org and if you don’t have access to a computer, you can obtain your tickets during Fair Office hours. Tickets are $25 for track, $20 for reserved and $15 for general admission and the concert starts at 7pm. Rob also stated he will need help putting up the stage for the concert. It was noted JR Fair Board members will be let into the concert, onto the track, for free wearing their 2019 JR Fair Board t-shirt.

The livestock barns were disinfected on Monday this week. Jeff Morris, chairman of the goat dept., stated there will be a champion sign put up for the goats in their barn. It was noted the community needs to continue to be vigilant about washing their hands after leaving a livestock building and not eating or taking food into the livestock barns, so everyone stays healthy. Everyone should also remember there is not to be any add on bids taken in the sale arena on sale day.

Janie Seiler, chairman of rides & concessions, stated spots are filling up. Visitors to the fair will see some new vendors this year. Durant ticket prices continue to remain the same as last year, with those being $12 for a ride wristband to ride all day. You can purchase those bands at the Durant ride ticket booth at the front of the midway.

Sherri Beale, advisor for the JR. Fair Board, stated there will be a new area in the 4-H building for the memory scrapbooks and trophies. There also will be an extended STEM program area.

Kolt Buchenroth, Fair Communications Director, stated visitors to the fair will be able to use free WIFI in the buildings during the fair – courtesy of Quest Federal Credit Union. He also talked about a virtual reality program that you can take part in during the fair.

Under old business:

Judi Cronley stated the fair premium book is available on line at www.hardincountyfair.org and in the fair office. Fair t-shirts and commemorative signs for the 2019 Hardin County Fair are still available for purchase in the fair office. Open Class entry tags can now be picked up in the fair office 9-5pm Friday and Saturday, Sunday 12-5pm and on Monday starting at 9am. Season tickets can still be purchased in the community and in the fair office throughout the week of the fair. Membership tickets can only be purchased in the Fair Office. Reserved seats for grandstand events can continue to be purchased in the fair office until the time of the shows.

Under new business:

The Arts/Crafts Building will be disassembled from fair displays on Wednesday, Sept. 11th at 6pm. The Fair Appreciation Dinner is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 15th at 6pm in the Community Building. Guests are to bring a covered dish, meat, drink and tableware is supplied. Petitions for the November Election for fair board directors are due by Friday, Oct. 25th at 4pm. Up for election this year are: Buck, Hale, Jackson, Liberty, Pleasant and 2 director at large positions. Those are all for a 3 year term. There is also a 2 year term for Goshen Twp. available. Anyone wanting to run for one of those director positions need to have a 2019 membership ticket. Season tickets can be exchanged for a membership ticket until Oct. 15th. Anyone interested in receiving a petition, should come to the Secretary’s office to receive one. The 2019 fair wrap up meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 25th at 7pm in the Fair Office. All chair people of committees should be in attendance to give a report on their department. Judi Cronley, noted JR Fair exhibitors that have still or livestock projects to not forget to pick up your premium money in the JR Fair Board office on either Saturday of the fair from 1-8pm or Sunday of the Fair from 1-7p m. Note the location change this year from the regular fair board office to the JR Fair Board office. Open class premiums can still be picked up the fair office from 1-7pm on Sunday of the fair. If a JR Fair or Open Class exhibitor doesn’t come to the fair, they can pick up their money in the secretary’s office on Wednesday or Fridays between the hours of 9am-4pm until Oct. 1st. It was noted the number of Open Class Exhibitors is up by 4 people this year and up in items being exhibited by 50. Antiques, beef, canned fruits & vegetables, culinary arts, cultural arts, flowers, photography, and Youth are all up in numbers. Dairy, fine arts, raw fruits & vegetables, sheep, wine and woodworking are all down in numbers this year. Total number of JR Fair exhibits is 2,803 and total number of exhibitors is 957, which is down from last year. Areas down are in breeding goats, horses, breeding rabbits and high school art. Brad Murphy talked about the meeting that was held with the Cushman Club.

The next board meeting will be Wednesday, October 2 at 7:00pm in the Fair Office.
