Hardin County Ag Society Releases Minutes of March Meeting

The Hardin County Agricultural Society met Wednesday, March 6, 2019, for their March board meeting. Nineteen directors were present and four guests were present.
Corey Ledley, Board President, called the meeting to order.
The board approved Lesa Heacock’s Kenton Times proposal for doing the fair premium book, fair preview, fair keepsake, and fair coverage for 2019.
Tom Kritzler’s Memorial money was discussed and a portable head chute for large animals was discussed, with a price of approximately $2300. Kelly Buchenroth stated he’s getting bids to paint the grandstand. A new electric contract from Santanna Energy Services for $0.05479 for 36 months was approved, along with the ground’s committee minutes.
It was noted that fair camping contracts have either been mailed or emailed and money is due by Friday, March 15th at 4pm. One reminder call will be given to those not paid by March 15th and then if the site is not paid by March 22nd, the site will be given to the next person on the waiting list. The deadline will be strongly enforced this year.
The board agreed to keep ticket prices for all grandstand entertainment, except for Saturday night’s entertainment the same as last year, with the KOI drag racing free in the grandstand and $10 for the pit. A change for harness racing this year, will be that the races will be at 1pm and 6pm on Thursday of the fair. Steve Christopher will be the Hour of Inspiration speaker on Sunday of the fair. The location for the Hour of Inspiration will be determined during the week of the fair to either be in the grandstand or show arena.
Jeff Morris, Goat committee chairman, stated the goat show will start at 8am this year and not 9am. They will have 3 judges and have added a rate of gain class. Charlie McCullough, swine committee chairman, stated he received a letter from the Ohio Dept. of Agriculture that 8 out 20 swine tested at the 2018 fair were found to be positive for some kind of disease. The letter send by the swine committee from the extension office was discussed.
Janie Seiler, chairman of the rides/concession/vendor committee stated contracts for space rentals during the 2019 fair were going out in the morning.
Sherri Beale, JR Fair Board Advisor, stated the Jr Fair board officers for 2019 are president: McKenzie Jolliff, Vice President: Garrett Thomas and Secretary: Evan Lyle. They had a wonderful turnout for their first meeting with only 3 kids not there. She stated the Jr. Fair board will be serving breakfast and lunch at the Consignment Sale. She asked that Fair Directors attend their meeting on Monday, June 24th at 7pm to introduce themselves to the Jr. Fair Board.
It was noted sponsorship packets have been mailed, with their deadline being March 29th.
The Gates/Admission’s Committee stated they are working on a date to meet with the chair people for gates and are currently looking for another group to work gates during the fair. Groups interested in working a gate need to have a 501c3 status.
Under old business:
There will be security cameras installed for the consignment sale in the arts/crafts building and at the main gate. Corey Ledley stated he will attend the District I & II meeting at the Wood County Fairgrounds on April 13th. Everyone was reminded that fair book changes need to be to Judi Cronley by Friday, March 15th at the latest. The fair book changes will be submitted to the Kenton Times on April 1st.
Under new business:
Judges for the fair are needed to Judi by the next board meeting. A radio rental proposal from Bender Communications in Marion for a cost of $2192 was approved. The board approved the proposal for rest room cleaners from Cathy Routt with one exception of them only receiving one free camping spot. Boats, Trailers and campers will come out of storage on Saturday, April 13th. Reminder letters will be sent next week. The next board meeting will be Wednesday, April 3rd at 7:00pm in the Fair Office.
