Groundbreaking on Downtown Project Scheduled Tuesday

Written by on December 9, 2019

Groundbreaking on the downtown Kenton water and sewer renovation project has been set for Tuesday December 10.

The ceremony will begin at 11 Tuesday morning and will take place at the southeast corner of South Main and Decatur Streets.

This marks the beginning of construction to replace water and sewer lines in Kenton’s downtown from the South Detroit Street bridge north to Ohio Street.

Construction is currently planned to continue through June of 2020.

The project was mandated by the Ohio EPA due to the condition of the existing water and sewer lines and to separate the storm and sanitary sewer lines.

75% of the funding for the work is through grants from the EPA and Ohio Public Works Commission.

This is phase one of a larger planned project. Kenton has been working with the Historic Courthouse District organization and OHM Advisors on plans for additional improvements to infrastructure in the downtown area which would follow completion of the water and sewer replacement phase.

The City of Kenton will be providing updates on the project, including affected streets and addresses through social media and local news outlets throughout the construction process.

Questions or concerns regarding construction may be addressed to the City of Kenton by calling 419-674-4850.
