Greek Tale ‘Eurydice’ to be Staged During UF ’19 Homecoming and Family Weekend

A fabled Greek tragedy will be reimagined through University of Findlay performing arts students via the enthralling drama “Eurydice.”
Written by Pulitzer Prize finalist and Tony Award nominee Sarah Ruhl, the play will be staged during Homecoming and Family Weekend. Shows will be held on Sept. 26 and 27 at 7 p.m.; Sept. 28 at 8 p.m.; and Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. on campus at the John and Hester Powell Grimm Theatre in Egner Center for the Performing Arts.
Tickets are $6, and can be purchased at the Marathon Center for the Performing Arts box office by visiting www.mcpa.org, calling 419-423-2787 or by visiting the center at 200 W. Main Cross St. UF students, faculty, and staff will be admitted free with valid University ID.
Ruhl’s masterpiece “reimagines the classic myth of Orpheus through the eyes of its heroine,” explained Director Meriah Sage. Dying too young on her wedding day, Eurydice must journey to the underworld, where she reunites with her father and struggles to remember her first love.
The play reflects “the same myth that is used in the current Tony Award-winning Broadway smash hit, ‘Hadestown,’” Sage noted.
Playing Eurydice will be Leah Chizmar from Stowe, Ohio. Ryan Blake Bush from Fostoria, Ohio, will play Orpheus; and portraying the father will be Jack Yeater from Carey, Ohio.
With contemporary characters, ingenious plot twists, and breathtaking visual effects, the play is a fresh look at a timeless love story. Ruhl’s script has been explicitly written to offer a “playground for designers.”
