Elder Care Certificate Earns ODE Industry Credential

August 8, 2019 – Marion, Ohio – Alber Enterprise Center of The Ohio State University is pleased to announce that its Elder Care Certificate program has just been approved by the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) for inclusion into the 2019-2020 Industry-Recognized Credential List for 4 credits for high school graduating seniors throughout Ohio.
“This is a strong endorsement of both the value and the rigor of this curriculum, which is the result of hard work by a team of experts in gerontology, long-term care, and education,” stated the Center’s director, Myra Wilson, MS, SPHR, SHRM-SCP.
Created to improve the quality of care for Ohio’s increasing aging population*, this certificate course was piloted with four long-term care organizations and has been in development for the past 3 years. Following the pilot program, evaluation data showed that more than 75% of the participants increased their knowledge about health and wellness resources for older adults.
According to the Ohio Department of Education, “Our committee of Industry Professionals recognized the support for the Elder Care Certificate from The Ohio State University – Alber Enterprise Center as leading to a beginning career in Health. They have recommended this credential to be included on the Ohio Department of Education’s List of Industry Recognized Credentials for 2019-2020 at a 4-point value in the Health career field.”
