Cross Calls Out State Senators for Not Trimming Authority of Ohio Health Director

Written by on May 28, 2020

There appears to be a dust up brewing between Representative Jon Cross and some State Senate legislators.

The Columbus Dispatch reported this week that the back and forth started after Cross criticized the Ohio Senate for shooting down a House attempt to use Senate Bill 1 to trim the authority of Health Director Dr. Amy Acton.

Cross tweeted the question “Not one Senator wants legislative overnight?”

State Senator Rob McColley responded by tweet that the measure needed to be fixed to prevent “unintended consequences.”

Another Senator, Jay Hottinger, of Newark, responded by wondering if Cross criticism stems from “freshman ineptness or laziness.”

Cross fired back that “this freshman State Representative won’t back down. He touted his size of 6 feet 4 inches and 290 pounds to back up his toughness.

Cross has been an open critic of Gov. Mike DeWine’s enforcement teams that’s charged with making sure restaurants and other establishments are adhering to recommendations requiring safe operations during the coronavirus pandemic.

He said he would recommend cutting the budget for the Governor’s “restaurant and bar police” if they unfairly attack small business owners.
