Citywide Water Shut Off Planned on Two Consecutive Nights in Kenton Next Week

Written by on August 7, 2020

A citywide water shut off will take place on two consecutive nights next week.

A boil water advisory will also be in effect.

According to a release, water will be turned off Wednesday evening August 12 at 7:00pm and is expected to be back on by 7:00am Thursday morning with the boil water advisory beginning at that time.

It will then be turned off at 7 Thursday evening August 13 and back on by 7:00am Friday morning August 14.

The entire city of Kenton is to be impacted.

The disruption to the water service will allow the city to install a 16-inch transmission main and connect it to an existing water distribution system.

The city’s water department will be working in conjunction with Driven Excavating to facilitate the work.

Water samples will be taken to ensure water quality meets all state drinking water standards.

The boil water notice is expected to be lifted on Saturday, August 15 if the samples past testing.

Bathing, showering, laundry, and hand washing are all permitted during the boil water advisory.

Brushing teeth, washing dishes, caring for pets, and preparing food all require water to be boiled before use. Do not drink or use water from any appliance connected to your water supply lines. This includes the water and ice dispensers in your refrigerator, freezer, and dishwasher.

There will likely be air in your water service piping when the water is turned back on. It is a good idea to run water from a faucet. Air will make a spurting or hissing sound as it escapes through the faucet. Once the water is flowing, allow the faucet to run for a minute or two.

The water may be cloudy at first due to air in the water or particles that dislodged as the pipes filled with water.
