Ben Logan Golfer Falls Just Short of Advancing to State Meet

Ben Logan’s Ethan Ricketts made a strong showing Thursday at Beavercreek golf club but came up short in advancing to the state meet next week.

Oakwood 321, Indian Hill 324, and Alter 326 were the 3 teams advancing.

Mason Whitt 73, Jack Neville 74, and Jack Sonne 78 were the 3 individuals advancing.

Ethan shot a 82 which placed him tied for 16th overall but 8th once the teams were removed. Scores seemed high with some tough pin placements and 15-20 mph winds to contend with.

Coach Chris Conley said, “Ethan got off to a rough start with a bad tee shot on the 2nd hole that led to a triple bogey. Two weeks earlier he’d eagled the same hole. Had the two scores been flipped he’d be headed to state. Even though the tough break early he battled back and had several chances for birdies but the putts weren’t falling today. In our practice round we found some very fast conditions and planned to play less aggressive than usual. On the greens it paid off as Ethan played very intelligent with only 1-three putt. However when you don’t make birdies it’s tough to score. Overall it was a great year and I’m really proud of the way he hung in there. Many guys throw in the towel when things don’t go your way but he really competed today and gave it his best shot. Since he’s only a junior will plan to be back stronger and wiser next year.”
