Bellefontaine Police Remind Truckers to Use U.S. 68 Bypass

Written by on July 24, 2019

The Bellefontaine Police Department is asking operators of semi tractor trailer units to use the U.S. 68 bypass in the city instead of going through the downtown.

In a Facebook posting, the police department noted that due to the very busy setting, semi traffic makes it too dangerous for anyone visiting the downtown area.

Despite signs being up for years, officers have stopped dozens of truck drivers violating the law making it necessary to bring awareness to the issue.

Many truckers report using their GPS and the GPS is what made them violate the law, but with the proper signage to point trucks in the correct direction in place, GPS does not override traffic laws.

Citations are likely to be issued for anyone violating the local traffic laws.
